Originally from the Philadelphia area, Chip grew up in
Coatesville. He and his wife, Audrey, have three daughters:
Brianne, Abigayle, and Devan. They currently live just outside
of Oxford, PA.
Chip is an adopted son. His adoptive parents, Chuck (a Research
Engineer) and Gayle (an author) Roper instilled in Chip an
understanding of deep and loving bonds between a parent and a
child. Chip speaks with poignancy and understanding when
discussing the unconditional love of a merciful Father, the
basic human need for grace and forgiveness, and the comfort and
peace of finding permanent family bonds.
Chip grew up an "insider" as a member of a Christian family, one
that was involved in planting a church when he was a kid.
Although he became a Christian himself, at the age of five, when
he asked Jesus into his heart, Chip knows there is a whole world
of "outsiders" around us. People who feel loneliness, confusion,
stress, despair, and disconnectedness. In fact, through seasons
of wandering from his faith, Chip experienced many of the same
things.
Brought to CTV through an orchestrated set of circumstances in
1993, Chip has been growing and learning along with the rest of
us!
Chip maintains his own relationship with God through a variety
of practices and experiences. He reads a lot, particularly books
that challenge him to connect more deeply with God. He meditates
on the Scriptures. He writes, at times, in a journal format. He
invests in spiritual friendships. Chip has had a number of
mentors and over the last several years has entered into formal
arrangements for monthly mentoring. He tries to guard his
schedule to provide time for reflection and goes away several
times a year, by himself, to nurture his soul.
Chip has been a perpetual student, finishing his doctor of
ministry degree in May 2004. Among other things, he enjoys
working on his house, fishing, rough housing with his girls, and
coaching little league softball.
