When
we ask each other “How are you?”, “busy” is the most
frequent reply. Inside
and outside of the church, people are running, running,
running. We live in a 24/7 society. We shop all night. We
expect stores to be open on the holidays. We stress over
many issues and things. Many of us live in a sleep
deficit. We drive our kids around at a frenetic pace trying
to keep up with all their activities and responsibilities.
We are restless!
Contrast our typical
rhythm of life with what Jesus offers:
"Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary
and carry heavy burdens,
and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me
teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find
rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly,
and the burden I give you is light."" (Matthew
11:28-30)
As we anticipate
moving into summer, a time when the rhythm changes a little
bit and many of us get away, we want to explore what it
looks like to enter more fully into the rest that Jesus
offers for our weary souls. This series connects some of
Scripture’s
most powerful promises with practices that we can implement
to live more restful
lives, secure in the love and power of Christ.
