The Heart of CTV
At CTV, our MISSION is...
To bring joy and honor to God by
- growing as a community where all are invited to pursue and
experience the fullness of life found only in Jesus Christ
- serving our neighbors and the world in a way that demonstrates
the love of God and draws them to a life-changing relationship
with Him.
The fullness of life in Christ is found as we . . .
Relate to God on the basis of His
GRACE.
A relationship with Jesus begins when we receive
His gift of grace - the offer of Himself as the complete payment for our sin and the loving leader of our lives. We
want to become worshipful, secure people who understand and grow in a deeper appreciation for God's generous, loving gift of His Son.
Pursue life-long GROWTH. We want to
become people who are equipped to
continually grow closer to God by living more and more like Christ.
Practice a GREAT COMMISSION mindset by sharing our faith.
We want to become people with passion for
joining Jesus in His world-changing work. We make disciples by
introducing people to Him and helping them find a place in His
transforming community, the Church.
Do life as part of God's
GROUP. We want to become people who are not alone,
people who live life in an open, God-centered, God-honoring,
growth-stimulating, loving community.
Discover and use
our God-given
GIFTS to serve. We want to become servants who discover the
unique gifts God has given us for the good of others and then employ those gifts in active ministry.
Practice a life of GIVING to God's work and His people.
We want to become people who invest our time
and material resources in things that will count for eternity.
At CTV, our VISION is to be a fresh and creative expression of the historic Christian faith.
At CTV, our STRATEGY for accomplishing our mission is to build the following four environments:
The Front Porch. The process of introducing people to Christ and helping them mature begins on the front porch. When we think of a tight community or neighborhood, we see people sitting on their front porches, talking to their neighbors, building relationships.
The Foyer. Every home has at least one entranceway or foyer. Over time, we want to develop multiple foyers for our church. Foyers are regular events or programs designed for spiritual explorers.
The Living Room. The living room is a significant room in any house, a place of gathering and comfort. At CTV, the living room is a worship service, a service geared primarily for those who are committed to Christ.
The Kitchen. The kitchen is the place in the house
where people role up their sleeves and work together. It is the place where conversations about the nitty-gritty of life take place. At CTV, the kitchen is a small group devoted to accomplishing a ministry task or devoted to spurring each other on in the journey of growth.
At CTV, our VALUES are simple.
We will honor God in everything we do.
The Lord says, I will honor those who honor
Me. (1 Samuel 2:30) The manner in which we do things is just as important to God as what we do.
- This means we will seek His direction at every step through the
Scriptures, prayer, and the counsel of godly people (spoken and
written).
- This means we will take bold steps that require His power and
intervention.
- This means we will give Him the praise for our success and impact as
a
church.
We will serve people in everything we do.
So everywhere we go, we tell everyone about Christ. We warn them and teach them with the wisdom God has given us, for we want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. (Colossians
1:28)
We will strive diligently to help people achieve their full potential in Christ.
- This means we will meet people where they are.
- This means we will urge them forward in pursuing all that God has
for them.
- This means we will diligently follow Jesus example and commands in relationships.
- This means serving the servers is as important as serving the spectators.
- This means that reaching outsiders is just as important as taking
care of insiders.
- This means we will respect your responsibility before God to
make your own commitments to His plan for your life (no hype!)
We will demonstrate humility in everything we do.
God opposes the proud, but pours out his favor and help on the
humble. (James 4:6)
Self-sufficiency, the need for unhealthy control, inflexibility, and self-righteousness, separate us from each other and from God s power.
- This means we will be open to new thinking.
- This means we will be flexible as we work together, keeping the
focus on the goals we are striving for, not on all the details of the
process.
- This means we will be real as we communicate, admitting our weaknesses and struggles.
- This means we will show respect and tolerance for different
convictions and non-essential beliefs.
- This means we encourage a Christ-centered freedom in worship and life.
We will be guided by a holy ambition in everything we do. We resonate with the passion of the Apostle Paul when he said,
"It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone elses foundation."
(Romans 15:20)
This value drives us towards our vision to be a fresh and creative expression of the historic Christian faith.
- This means we will always look for ways to do it better.
At CTV, we BELIEVE that . . .
- God is the loving Creator of all that exists, both seen and
unseen. God is eternal and completely good, knowing all
things, having all power and majesty. God exists as the
Trinity, in three persons, yet one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God passionately desires a relationship with us and
toward this end continually invites us into a relationship of
faith, friendship, learning, and service. (Genesis 1:1; John 14:6-9,
15-17, and 16:7-15; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 John
4:9-10)
- Jesus Christ is God expressed in human form. The Son of
God, born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was
crucified for the sins of us all, was buried, rose again from the
dead, and ascended to heaven and will return to earth one day
to bring God s plan for the world to completion. (Colossians 1:13-23; 2:8-14; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; Matthew 22:36-40; John
14:1-3; Hebrews 1:1-3; Acts 10:42-43; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-5:1)
- The Holy Spirit, sent from God to live inside all who believe
in Jesus Christ, teaches, comforts and empowers us, giving
each follower diverse gifts, fostering unity, interdependence,
productivity, Christ-like character, and love among
Christians. (Romans 5:5, and 8; 1 Corinthians 12-14; Galatians
5:16-25; Ephesians 3:16, 4:3-4 and 5:18; John 14:26 and 16:7-11)
- God speaks to us in the Bible, and that it is our privilege to
seek to understand God s message and apply it responsibly to
our lives. The Bible is our standard in all we say and do. We
believe that God s unchangeable Biblical message ought to be
presented in relevant and contemporary ways, free of religious
jargon and understandable to the people of our community.
(Matthew 5:17-19, 2 Timothy 2:15, 3:14-17; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Peter
3:14-18; Psalm 19:7-11, 119:9-16, Joshua 1:7-8; Acts 7:11)
- All People are created with dignity and value in the image of
God, to live in a vital relationship with God. However,
through our sin (failing to live by God s moral standards), we
break our intended relationship with God and we experience
the destructive consequences of that broken relationship,
spiritually and socially, in this life and beyond. However, God
sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to rescue us from those
consequences
